GEBIRGSJAEGER UNIT WATCH FOB:
Interesting and scarce example of a unit specific watch
fob related to the 98th Mountain Infantry
Regiment of the 1st. Gebirgsjaeger
Division. The front depicts a 1939 Iron Cross with
mountain flowers and the abbreviated wording “1.GEN.KP.I.GEB.JAG.E.BTL.98”
which basically translates into Reconditioning Company 1
Gebirgsjaeger Replacement Battalion 98. The
reverse lists the units home base of Garmisch and
“War Year 1943”-the year this unit was withdrawn from
the Russian front and sent to Greece for refitting
and anti-partisan operations. The first of its kind
I’ve seen, the fob (about the size of a half dollar)
shows some age toning and is lacking its attachment loop
