MOUNTAIN GAITERS:
Wartime issue gaiters as worn with the mountains boot
and based on the Austrian pattern. These are often
associated with Waffen-SS Gebirgsjaeger although
this example pair differs somewhat (it is documented
that up to four different types were made) . They are
produced of grey green canvas (Siegeltuch) that
laces through four hook eyelets on the exterior side.
Black leather straps secure under the heel and at the
side. The interior has reinforcements of brown / black
leather and grey webbing with a large metal hook to
secure the front to the top of the boot laces. One of
the leather reinforcements is embossed with the 1942
maker mark of the Pelzer Co, in Kirn
(Bavaria). The gaiters show use and wear with soiling,
minor rust and one heel strap missing. One gaiter still
retains its original leather lace. Scarce mountain
