#6100-STRIPPED-ALTERED M40 PATTERN OFFICERS TUNIC:
Interesting example of a stripped Officers type tunic in
the M40 style but most likely not for the Heer.
This tunic was reworked for civilian use after
the war and an attempted restoration was made by the
former owner. It is in the private purchase style being
of a fine, grey-green wool trikot.(due
to lighting it appears grey in the images)
that is most likely of Italian origins. It has four
pleated pockets, a five-button front and once had Roll
cuffs which have been removed and reseamed to lengthen
the sleeves. Its plain cloth collar is wider and unlike
those used by the Heer. The collar has two metal
hook & eyes to close it, but these are bent. The
interior is lined in grey –green rayon cloth with
pinstriped silk inside the sleeves, an inside pocket &
lower slot for edged weapons wear. The last owner of
this piece found it completely stripped and was
restoring it as a Heer medical Officers example.
Postwar buttons and original Medical Oberstleutnant
boards were reapplied, as well as a breast
eagle-now removed with virtually no sign remaining (It
was never there originally) The left sleeve however does
have evidence of previous insignia, which when combined
with the collar style and wool color suggests possible
Combat Police or Waffen SS use. Would be a
worthwhile example for study and proper restoration.
Shows light wear, soiling and age, Condition II-
