#13425-WEHRMACHT SNIPERS BADGE:
A fine and almost near impossible to find example of
this later war badge in the highest grade awarded to
snipers for their proficiency. Instituted towards the
end of 1944, the award was made in three classes, This
example being a grade 3 as awarded for 60 or more
"kills". This textbook example is of fine, multi layered
machine embroidery in various colored rayon threads on a
backing of dove grey wool badgecloth. This embroidery
has the correct chain stitched details throughout the
eagle's head & neck along with rust-orange thread
forming the eye and beak. The gold border is of metallic
gimp cord that is tightly hand applied and correct
attached at the base of the rear. This example has met
with the approval of numerous collectors and is fact
the badge shown on a leading collector forum as what
an original should look like. Snipers badges were
generally not worn or disposed of by their recipients
given that capture with such a badge was virtually a
death sentence for the owner. The first such example I
have offered in almost 30 years, The badge shows minor
age toning and remains in clean, solid condition II+
