#11272-HEER DAK TROPICAL PITH HELMET:
Nice example of the first pattern Tropical Pith Helmet
as worn by the Afrika Korps. The cork helmet has
a six panel covering of Khaki twill cotton (now faded to
tan) with a band of matching cloth. The top features a
removable ventilation dome covered in matching cloth.
The sides are adorned with metal helmet shields
depicting the Heer national eagle and Tri-colors,
both of which have never been removed. The rim of the
helmet retains a full edge trim of olive colored leather
that is worn with some sections heavily worn (the worst
part is shown in the images). The underside of this rim
is for the most part unfaded and shows the original
Khaki color of the cloth. The interior has a lining of
red cotton twill and is complete with a liner of brown
leather. The reverse is stamped and dated 1942 while the
obverse has an eradicated ink stain on it. The chinstrap
is there but heavily worn and split. This is the correct
type associated with the Afrika Korps and
certainly looks like it was “There” by the fading, wear
and age visible. Condition III+ $465.00 |
