MOUNTAIN OFFICERS SERVICE TUNIC:
Fine, later war private purchase example of an Officers
field service tunic. It is produced of field grey
gabardine wool from
captured Italian Officer’s cloth stocks. Cut in the M36
pattern it has a six-button front, green wool collar,
pleated pockets and roll cuffs. The collar configuration
and lightly pressed labels suggest that the tunic was
worn as an "open-collar" garment. The Officer pattern
insignias include machine applied collar tabs and a hand
applied breast eagle. Both in fine aluminum bullion. Its
sew-in shoulder boards are of subdued aluminum braid on
a grass green wool base having gilt pips and numerals
denoting a Hauptmann in the famous100th
Gebirgs Infantrie regiment (5rd.
Gebirgs Division). Correspondingly, the right sleeve
has a hand applied, BeVo pattern sleeve
Edelweiss as typical for this later period. The
front also retains an Iron Cross second class ribbon
that appears very original to the tunic.. Its interior
is fully lined with grey HBT patterned rayon cloth with
the inner sleeves lined with crème colored rayon. This
interior is complete with an edged weapons slot and
inner pocket. The tunic remains quite clean with only
hints of minor age and wear. Condition II+ $1495.00
