#13354-H.J./ D.J UNIT PENNANT:
Outstanding example of a post 1934
Jungenschaftswimpel as carried by individual D.J.
groups. Measuring about 32 inches long, the two sided
pennant is in black cotton construction featuring a
machine applied single rune on the front and a very
elaborate reverse design. Depicted here are the coat of
arms and location name of Siebenburgen.
Interestingly, Siebenburgen was an area in
Transylvania (Romania) that was inhabited by ethnic
Germans of Saxon origin since the middle ages. Often
these pennants were produced by the DJ or associated BDM
group and often of crude workmanship, but not the
case with this example. The 8 by 6-1/2 inch coat of arms
exhibits superior workmanship being of seamed
multi-panel construction with finely chain stitched
details. The name is executed in hand knotted, chain
stitch outline style. The pennant is complete with two
end ties of woven rayon tape. The unique pennant shows
some surface age and a couple of old, hard to notice
small repairs. The ethnic German population of
Siebenburgen is almost nonexistent today due to
post war deportations to Russian labor camps and
Communist resettlement of its people to Germany. A rare
and historical example in Condition II+ $1150.00 |
